who is erik russell?

Erik was born in Scotland and grew up in Glasgow and on the Isle of Islay.  He acquired a camera at the age of 7 and at 14 sold his first photograph - of The Who in concert. Having trained as a pilot in the RAF, Erik surrendered to his love of photography, and went on to study at the London College of Printing.

There followed an apprenticeship which included two years at the Conde Nast studios assisting such top names as David Bailey, Helmut Newton, Lester Bookbinder, Terence Donovan, Tony McGee and Alan Randall.

Erik then set up his own studio and worked for record companies (music being a strong interest), magazines and design groups.  His particular skills in the photography of fashion and beauty led to regular shoots for Arena, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Eve, GQ, InStyle, Marie-Claire, She, Wedding Day, Zest and many others. He has been a regular contributor to Elle magazine for over 15 years.

He also worked for the Daily Telegraph and for ten years provided photography for the weekly magazine’s Shop Front.

With a special eye for artistic creation Erik also worked for advertising clients including Body Shop, Boots, De Beers, Diagio, Habitat and Heinz.

In 2005 Erik moved his studio from London to the South Coast and has broadened his photographic subject areas to include industrial and commercial products and - complementing his love of sailing and the outdoors -  is fast becoming a recognised marine photographer.

Not afraid of new challenges,  Erik continues to develop his broad range of skills and is ready to meet the requirements of new clients.
